Moyes to leave West Ham at end of season

West Ham have confirmed that David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

It comes after reports on Monday that former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui agreed a deal to take over from the Scot.

Moyes, who has overseen 260 games so far during his two spells with the club, guided West Ham to their first European trophy since 1965 when they beat Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final in 2023.

In a club statement, Moyes said: “I have enjoyed four and a half brilliant years at West Ham, and the club is in a stronger position than when I returned back in 2019.

“When I joined West Ham for a second time, the club was one place above the relegation zone, and it has been a terrific journey to have achieved three conse…

Emery: Villa ´missed some energy´ in Man Utd stalemate

Unai Emery believes Aston Villa missed some energy during their goalless draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

The spoils were shared following an underwhelming 90 minutes at Villa Park, where the hosts recorded their second stalemate in as many Premier League games after last weekend s 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town.

Villa were aiming to build on their memorable Champions League victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday but only registered a single shot on target courtesy of Youri Tielemans second-half attempt.

And Emery believes his side s midweek exploits in Europe took their toll on Sunday.

It is not the best result, but it s not the worst, the Villa boss said. I think a draw is fair.

We played the second half much better than the first and, at th…

FIFA to resist change for 2022 World Cup

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has all but guaranteed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be not be moved to January.

Blatter had previously suggested the tournament could be played in the Qatari winter rather than in June and July when the World Cup is normally held to avoid the searing temperatures in the Middle East nation at that time of year.

But speaking on BBC Radio on Monday, Blatter revealed FIFA were not currently looking at moving the date for the 2022 tournament and said he expected all 64 World Cup matches to be held in Qatar in the summer.

I think for the time being the matter is on ice. Everything is settled for summer, Blatter said.

Who said first that we should play in winter? It was Franz Beckenbauer, second Michel Platini and the world foo…
